When Racing Has to Come Second

There are times in sled dog racing when the race simply has to come second.

In 2025, Infury Sleddogs made the difficult decision to miss the Italian Dryland Championships because one of our much-loved pack members, Invi, was reaching the final stages of his life.

Invi was a former champion himself and a hugely important part of the Infury story. As he became elderly and his health declined, he needed our care and attention during his final days. For us, there was never really a question about what came first.

A race is never more important than the dogs themselves.

While missing Italy was disappointing, we have no regrets. Invi deserved to have his family around him, and those final days were far more important than any medal.

A Change of Plans in Romania

Our next opportunity to race on snow was planned for Romania in 2026. Unfortunately, deteriorating snow conditions meant the race was cancelled at the last minute.

It was another disappointment, but rather than waste the opportunity, we headed to Germany and managed to get several weeks of valuable snow training under our belts.

And there was an unexpected bonus...

Infury managed to come away with a cheeky second place in the German Snow Championships! 🥈

More importantly, the trip gave us something potentially even more valuable — the chance to experience the trails at Unterjoch, Germany, the very same venue that will host the 2027 World Championships.

Getting time on those trails, learning the conditions and giving the dogs experience of the venue could prove hugely important when we return for the World Championships.

The Road to 2027

Before we get to the snow in Unterjoch, however, there is another major challenge ahead.

The Dryland World Championships in Strohen, Germany are coming up, and Infury is determined to be there.

But getting an international sled dog team to these events is becoming increasingly difficult.

The cost of transporting the dogs has risen dramatically, while international travel, documentation and dog passport and veterinary paperwork have all become significantly more expensive.

For a team like ours, these aren't optional expenses. They are essential to getting the dogs safely to the start line.

We Need Your Help

More than ever, Infury Sleddogs needs sponsorship and support.

We have the experience. We have the dogs. We have the passion and determination to compete at the highest level of international sled dog racing.

But without financial support, getting to these championships is becoming increasingly difficult.

Every sponsor, every donation and every person who helps share our story makes a genuine difference.

Our goal isn't simply to turn up and race.

It's to give our dogs the opportunity to compete at the highest level, represent the UK on the international stage and continue the Infury Sleddogs story.

The road to the 2027 World Championships starts now.
